Da Vinci Connect High Seniors Gain Real-World Experience Through Mock Interviews
At Da Vinci Connect High, seniors recently participated in mock interviews as part of their College and Career class, gaining hands-on experience in professional communication, critical thinking, and resume presentation. Mock interviews are a signature practice of Da Vinci’s real-world learning program across the organization, giving students a safe space to practice, grow, and build the confidence and skills needed to succeed in college, career, and life.
In the weeks leading up to the event, Da Vinci Connect High students crafted resumes and practiced strategies for confident, professional communication. When interview day arrived, they put those skills into action—dressing professionally, offering a friendly greeting and firm handshake, and discovering that a strong interview begins long before entering the room.
During the 60-minute sessions, students responded to common interview prompts such as:
-
“Tell me a little about yourself.”
-
“Describe a time when you worked as part of a team. What role did you play, and how did you contribute to the outcome?”
-
“What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in high school so far, and how has it shaped you?”
-
“What are your plans after graduating from 12th grade?”
-
“Tell me about a challenge you currently face and how you are working to overcome it.”
-
“What are your strengths and weaknesses?”
-
“How do you manage your time between studies and other activities?”
Additional questions encouraged deeper reflection and goal-setting, such as: “What are your goals for the next few years?” and “Where do you see yourself in five years, and how do you plan to reach those goals?”
Da Vinci staff served as interviewers, providing constructive feedback on communication, body language, and professional etiquette. Conducted in small groups, the mock interviews encouraged students to practice active listening, support peers, and adapt to group dynamics—all while learning from each other’s strategies and responses.
Students reflected on their growth in confidence, self-awareness, and stress management, as well as their ability to articulate strengths and areas for improvement. One senior shared, “It helped me feel more confident,” while another noted, “I really valued the importance of rehearsing to ensure I share my experience and thoughtful answers.”
By the end of the sessions, Connect High seniors walked away with meaningful interview practice, enhanced communication skills, and greater readiness to navigate both professional and academic opportunities. These mock interviews—an essential component of Mrs. Felix’s College and Career class—equip students with the skills and self-assurance they need to thrive in college, career, and life.
