A Spirit of Community Building and Partnership

March was an event-filled month of community building and partnership at Da Vinci Schools with Wiseburn Middle School Movie Night & Tours, the FIRST Robotics L.A. Regional Competition, and Community Aviation Day. These were awesome events strengthening our connections with our community, our neighbors, and the world.

WMS PTSA & Da Vinci Schools Present: Movie Night and Da Vinci High Schools Tour

Da Vinci hosted 100+ students and families from Wiseburn Middle School on March 8 for an exclusive (and free) screening of Gran Turismo in the Blackbox Theater, in partnership with the Wiseburn Middle School PTSA.  The evening began with Da Vinci high school student ambassadors leading WMS families on tours of Da Vinci Design, Communications, and Science. WMS families also got a chance to see the WDV Boys Volleyball team in action in the WDV Gym and a rehearsal for the upcoming Addams Family theatrical performance.

After the tours, WMS students and families settled into their sleeping bags and chairs and received a free snack box filled with popcorn, slice of pizza, choice of drink, candy, and glowsticks– all assembled by WMS students and PTSA parent volunteers.

It was a super fun and memorable evening for WMS students and families, most of whom are transitioning into Da Vinci next year as 9th graders.

First Robotics L.A. Regional Competition: A Showcase of Ingenuity

Da Vinci Schools hosted the FIRST Robotics L.A. Regional, a high-energy competition that brought together 44 teams from around the world, all eager to showcase their engineering and teamwork skills.

Participants worked tirelessly to design and build robots capable of completing complex tasks in this year’s challenge called Crescendo, demonstrating creativity and teamwork along the way. This championship represents the culmination of global innovation and collaboration as teams watched their robots in action, highlighting the importance of STEM education and hands-on learning. Our very own team, Team 4201: Vitruvian Bots, took home the 2024 Innovation In Control Award. Congratulations to the team on their remarkable achievement – your hard work and innovation make us proud!

We are so grateful to all of our community partners and mentors who support our robotics program.

Community Aviation Day: Exploring the Skies

Our first-ever Community Aviation Day on March 23 was an awesome experience for our community! It was a beautiful time of connection across our community and across generations, and we think everyone is in agreement that this should become an annual event!

More than 400 attendees came out for Community Aviation Day despite the rain. There were fantastic activities for kids of all ages including flight simulation experiences, building model airplanes, and more.

There were 12 community aviation organizations hosting booths and fun aerospace activities, including the FAA, L.A. World Airports, Northrop Grumman, Giving Kids Wings Flight Academy, Western Museum of Flight, South Bay Aerospace Alliance, Sling Pilot Academy, Civil Air Patrol, Pacific Skies Aviation, Aero Club, Robinson Helicopter Company, and Moog Aircraft Group. Additional participating community partners included Wiseburn USD, Wiseburn Education Foundation, and the El Segundo Police Department. We are so grateful to our community partners for supporting aerospace learning at Da Vinci Schools.

We can’t wait to do it again next year!
