Summer Athletics Camps Coming in Summer 2024

In early December, we sent out a survey to all Da Vinci and Wiseburn families asking if they’d be interested in summer athletics camps for their kids and the answer was a resounding YES, with 685 kids interested in attending athletics camp this summer.

And so, we’re building it! Da Vinci Schools, Wiseburn USD, Da Vinci Schools Fund, and Wiseburn Education Foundation, have all banded together to create the first-ever Wiseburn + Da Vinci Summer Athletics Camps for kids in 4th-12th grade, based on the feedback collected from surveyed families.

Camp Details

  • Dates: Camps are six weeks long, from June 17, 2024 – July 26, 2024. Camp sessions are held Monday to Thursday each week.
  • Times:
  • Incoming 4th-8th Graders: 8 AM – 12 PM
  • Incoming 9th-12th Graders: 12 PM – 4 PM
  • Cost: $350 per student for six weeks (financial support available to those who qualify)
  • Location: WDV Gym at 201 N. Douglas St. and other school campuses in Wiseburn (final locations to be announced)
  • Registration: Opens March 1, 2024 at www.summerinwiseburn.org

Programs Offered

The summer camps are open to all, though there will be priority registration for Wiseburn and Da Vinci families. Students of every level — those with athletic experience and those just starting out — are welcome, and able to choose from the following athletic offerings:

  • Incoming 4th-8th Graders: Rotation of sports including soccer, basketball, baseball/softball, and possibly volleyball.
  • Incoming 9th-12th Graders: Specialized training, skill development, and conditioning in chosen sports such as basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, cross country, archery, and cheer.

Information about additional enrichment summer camps, including Da Vinci Summer Camps, will be coming soon. We’re also working on finding an extended care solution for those families who have younger kids in the morning athletic camp and will need afternoon supervision.

Partnership in Action

The Wiseburn + Da Vinci Summer Athletics Camps was made possible by a team of staff and leaders from all four organizations who are building the Summer 2024 program together.

“We are so excited to offer this summer program to students and families,” said Dr. Matthew Wunder, CEO & Superintendent of Da Vinci Schools. “Thank you to all the families who completed the survey, letting us know that a summer athletic program is important to you; we heard you loud and clear and are modeling the program based on your direct responses and feedback. We are also grateful to the Da Vinci Schools Fund for leading the strategy and implementation, and we are grateful to Wiseburn USD and the Wiseburn Education Foundation for joining forces with us. We are excited to be constructing this together for our kids here and for kids everywhere.”

Gary Wayland, president of the Da Vinci Schools Fund and founder of Manhattan Beach’s MBX Foundation, is leading the strategy. During his time with MBX Foundation, Wayland built their summer programming, which has since raised tens of millions of dollars in extra funding for the Manhattan Beach Unified School District.

All profits from the Wiseburn + Da Vinci Summer Athletics Camps will be split 50/50 between the Da Vinci Schools Fund and Wiseburn Education Foundation; both organizations exist exclusively to support our Da Vinci and Wiseburn and schools, teachers, and kids.

“The launch of this summer program is the beginning of what we hope will be a comprehensive and enriching experience for our kids, utilizing our combined facilities and programs to create a more impactful and cohesive educational offering,” said Dr. Blake Silvers, Superintendent of Wiseburn USD. “We thank our community for their feedback that demonstrated the potential for a program like this, and look forward to seeing our students enjoy summer camps right here in Wiseburn.”

If you’re interested in camp, please be sure to save the dates of June 17 – July 26 in your calendars and go to www.summerinwiseburn.org to register and learn more.
