Celebrating Student-Athletes’ Success on National Signing Day

We are thrilled to share that four Wiseburn Da Vinci student-athletes officially signed a Letter of Intent to play sports in college at a ceremony for family and friends on February 7th marking National Signing Day.

National Signing Day represents a pivotal moment in the lives of high school athletes across the country, where years of hard work culminate into a single signature, symbolizing the transition of promising young talents into the next generation of collegiate athletes. Wiseburn Da Vinci Athletics is proud to recognize four athletes who committed to their respective sports in diving, gymnastics, softball, and volleyball.

Arianna Caldwell:  Diving, University of Iowa
Kennedy Crosby: Softball, Chapman University
Cody Evans: Volleyball, UC Merced
Jillian Silvers:  Gymnastics, University of Arizona

The college recruiting process is a multifaceted journey that unfolds for several months, and sometimes years, prior to when students begin their college applications. One of the most exciting moments for a student-athlete is receiving a verbal offer to play sports in college, but nothing is official until they’ve signed the National Letter of Intent (NLI.) The NLI is a document signed by student-athletes indicating their commitment to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

For Debbie Evans, this was an emotional milestone witnessing her eldest son, Cody Evans, who was celebrated for his dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to his goals. Reflecting on the moment, Debbie shared, “Panning the crowd and watching all these friends and family who have been so supportive for so many years be part of such a big day brought me to tears.”

“Honestly, it felt like a dream,” Cody says as his friends and family stood beside him with unwavering support. “It’s every athlete’s goal to commit to a college and I couldn’t be here without all the support.”

Arianna Caldwell will attend the University of Iowa where she will compete in Diving and study Nursing. Kennedy Crosby will attend Chapman University where she will compete in softball and study Applied Human Physiology. Cody Evans will attend UC Merced where he will compete on the Men’s Volleyball Team and study Mechanical Engineering. Jillian Silvers, daughter of Dr. Blake Silvers, Superintendent of Wiseburn Unified School District, will attend the University of Arizona where she will compete in Gymnastics and study pre-law, majoring in Political Science.

Last year, WDV Athletics celebrated the achievements of two student-athletes on National Signing Day, with one signing her letter of intent to compete on the swim team at a Division I level. Now, with a total of six students officially signed to play at the collegiate level, Nick Davidson, the Director of WDV Athletics, is thrilled to see an increase in the number of student athletes being recognized for their accomplishments.

Nick opened the ceremony with a moment of gratitude stating, “I am immensely grateful for the impact of the Wiseburn Da Vinci Athletics program and extend my gratitude to all our Wiseburn Da Vinci faculty, coaches, teammates, friends, and family.” He continued, “Witnessing the dedication and talent of our student-athletes is truly inspiring. Their achievements exemplify the spirit and excellence that define our program.”

Congratulations to all of our Wiseburn Da Vinci student-athletes! We are so proud of you!
