
Wolves on the Move: Celebrating a Strong Fall Season and Welcoming Winter Athletics
As the fall season comes to a close, we’re incredibly proud of everything our student-athletes have accomplished. From the first practices of the season to the final competitions, our Wiseburn Da Vinci Wolves have shown unmatched dedication, teamwork, and school pride. The energy in the stands, the spirit on the sidelines, and the determination on the court and field have made this fall truly special.
While we celebrate the effort and growth of our fall athletes, we’re also looking ahead to an exciting winter season! Tryouts are underway, and practices are in full swing as teams begin preparing for upcoming scrimmages and games. It’s been great seeing new faces stepping up to join, returning athletes continuing to build on their skills, and everyone coming together to represent Wiseburn Da Vinci with heart.
Winter sports bring new opportunities to compete, grow, and connect — both on and off the field and court. Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself, meet new people, or simply be part of something bigger, this season is your chance to make your mark.

🏐 Girls Volleyball
Our Varsity Girls Volleyball team has officially qualified for the CIF Southern Section Playoffs and will be hosting a HOME semifinal playoff game on Saturday, November 1 at 6pm versus Capistrano Valley Christian. The team’s dedication and hard work throughout the season have paid off, earning them this exciting opportunity to continue competing at a high level. Throughout the season, the players have shown incredible teamwork, focus, and resilience, taking on tough opponents and growing stronger each match. Hosting a playoff game is a huge accomplishment for the program and a testament to their effort and commitment.We’re so proud of this group and can’t wait to see them represent WDV in the postseason. Come out, fill the stands, and cheer loud your support makes all the difference.

🎮 Esports
October was a busy month for Esports! Members recruited at all schools’ club fairs to grow the program to its largest membership to date. Tryouts were held both in-school and online for Super Smash Bros, Rocket League, Overwatch 2, Valorant, Chess, and Marvel Rivals. We currently have 18 players competing in CIF Super Smash Bros and Rocket League, and 45 players competing in the EGFH National Fall League. A special shoutout to Windgrove Daniel for holding the #1 ranking for two weeks in the CIF SSBU Solos League! Esports players and parents also attended two college visits to see the Cal State Dominguez Hills Esports team in action. These experiences give our students the opportunity to connect their school and sports activities with their college and career aspirations. Led by sophomore Cesar Ortiz, members have also begun fundraising through their monthly bake sale. Please come out to support them again on Monday, November 3rd!
👟 Cross Country
The 2025 WDV Cross Country season showcased impressive growth and determination across both the boys and girls teams. Leading the boys was Christopher Hernandez, who posted an outstanding 16:08.3 for three miles at the 38th Annual Bell Gardens Invitational, setting the tone for the team. He was supported by strong performances from Julian Waters and Hudson Pandey, while emerging underclassmen like Arick Calderon and William Chappell achieved new personal records, reflecting the depth and future potential of the squad. On the girls team, freshman standout Adalyn Besemer led the way with a season-best 18:43.1 and consistent top finishes. She was joined by Jeannine Gandara, Layla Depaz, and the Owens sisters, Sadie and Sophie, who all recorded personal records this season. The team earned runner-up honors at the Bell-Jeff Invitational and placed fifth overall in the highly competitive Central Park Invitational.
🏹 Archery
Archery is currently holding tryouts through the first week of November, with over 70 student-athletes participating for just 20 available spots on the team. The strong turnout reflects the growing excitement and interest in the program. The final roster will be posted soon, so be sure to keep an eye out for updates as we head into what promises to be a focused and competitive season.
🐺 Cheer
Cheer has been a wonderful addition to the Girls Volleyball home games, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and school spirit to every match. Their support has helped elevate the game-day experience for players and fans alike. The team is now preparing for an exciting winter season, ready to showcase new routines and cheer on our basketball and soccer programs with the same passion and dedication.
🏐 Boys Beach Volleyball
The Boys Beach Volleyball team continues to impress, earning a spot in Division 1, placing them among the top eight teams in the CIF Southern Section. This is a major accomplishment and a reflection of their hard work and dedication throughout the season. Standout duo Malakai and Sam led the way, earning recognition as the top pair overall in Week 1. The team’s strong performances and competitive spirit have set a high standard for the program as they continue their run against the best in the region.

🏈 Girls Flag Football
The Wiseburn Da Vinci Girls Flag Football program is off to an exciting start! This Saturday, the team will hold their draft, and their first game is scheduled for Friday, November 7th at 4:30 PM. The inaugural season began with an impressive 92 girls trying out, and after a competitive selection process, the roster has been finalized. Key players to watch include senior Hannah Johnson, underclassmen Simerah Arnwine, Aliyah Welch, Iimara Collins, Kristian Miller, and Lei, 10th grader Yasmina Alexander, talented up-and-coming quarterback Ashley Sutton, and senior rugby standout Malika Lomu. The team is divided into squads coached by Patty Foxmen (White Squad), Coach Betman (Black Squad), John Grey (Gray Squad), and Coach Hunter (Blue Squad). On November 7th, the first matchups will feature Black vs. White and Blue vs. Gray.

⚽ Girls Soccer
The Wiseburn Da Vinci Girls Soccer program is officially back in action, and this year’s season promises to be one for the books! Head Coach Dr. Mimi Nartey returns to lead the program alongside Coach Mike Asfall, Head Coach of Junior Varsity. We’re also thrilled to welcome back WDV alum Yui Mahe to the coaching staff as our new Head Goalkeeper Coach, a full-circle moment that speaks to the growing legacy of our program. This season kicked off with incredible momentum: nearly 80 girls attended tryouts, marking the highest turnout in team history. The energy, talent, and determination displayed by our athletes have set the tone for what’s shaping up to be a thrilling and competitive season ahead. Building on last year’s historic achievements including our first-ever victory over El Segundo and our debut appearance in the Division III playoffs the team is hungry to raise the bar even higher. We’re also proud to celebrate our program’s first NCAA Division I commit, a milestone that highlights the continued growth, excellence, and dedication of Wiseburn Da Vinci Girls Soccer. Here’s to another season filled with passion, perseverance, and pride. Go Wolves!
⚽ Boys Soccer
The Wiseburn Da Vinci Boys Soccer program had a huge turnout for tryouts this year, with an impressive level of competition among players. After a highly competitive selection process, the final roster has been set, and the team has already begun practices in preparation for the upcoming season. Their first scrimmage is scheduled for November 13th.
🏀 Girls Basketball
The Wiseburn Da Vinci Girls Basketball team has been putting in the work as they prepare for the start of their season. The team has been practicing regularly, training with EXOS, and spending time in the weight room to build strength and endurance. They recently held their media day, capturing the excitement and energy heading into competition. The team’s first tournament will take place on November 17th at San Dimas
🏀 Boys Basketball
The Wiseburn Da Vinci Boys Basketball team has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming season. Players have been practicing consistently, hitting the weight room with EXOS, and focusing on team building through off-campus beach workouts. The team will also be attending a Clippers game together as a fun bonding experience before competition begins. Their first tournament play starts on November 17th, marking the official start of what promises to be an exciting and competitive season ahead.

⚾ Baseball
This month has been an exciting and impactful one for our Baseball program. They hosted baseball tryouts with 92 student-athletes showcasing their skills, effort, and passion for the game. After a highly competitive evaluation process, 60 student-athletes were selected to move forward in the program. Our offseason development continues to build momentum as players focus on skill-building, team culture, and preparation for the upcoming season. We are also proud to participate in the Brett Mendoza “Battle of the Bay” Tournament, held in honor of a respected and beloved high school coach. This is more than just a tournament, it's a meaningful opportunity to represent Wiseburn Da Vinci and our community with pride
