
From the Courts to the Fields: January Athletics Update
January was a month of growth, resilience, and celebration across Wiseburn Da Vinci Athletics. From team victories and well-earned senior recognitions to continued development across every program, our WDV Wolves student-athletes competed with pride, determination, and heart—representing Wiseburn Da Vinci with excellence on and off the field.
We also proudly celebrate the opening of the new field behind Da Vinci Connect TK-8, now serving as a practice home for WDV Wolves Baseball, a play space for our Connect students, and a shared resource benefiting the entire Wiseburn community.
🏀 Girls Basketball
WDV Girls Varsity Basketball continued a strong winter season with several notable January performances, including a 58–32 victory over El Segundo and a 54–44 win over South High. While a few close matchups did not fall in their favor, the team demonstrated growth, resilience, and competitive spirit throughout the month.
Highlight: Senior Night was a meaningful celebration recognizing the leadership and commitment of the team’s senior athletes and the positive culture within the program.
🏀 Boys Basketball
The Boys Varsity Wolves navigated a competitive January schedule, securing a 57–49 victory over Chadwick High School and challenging strong opponents such as Peninsula and Mira Costa in tightly contested games. These experiences provided valuable momentum as league play continued.
The JV Boys Basketball team also had a standout month, earning wins against Chadwick and Peninsula and showcasing the depth of talent across the program.
Highlight: Senior Night took place on January 30, honoring student-athletes who proudly represented Wiseburn Da Vinci Basketball.
⚽ Girls Soccer
WDV Girls Varsity Soccer posted strong results in January, highlighted by a 4–2 victory over Palisades High School and a 1–1 draw with South High. The team continues to combine dynamic attacking play with disciplined defensive organization.
Highlight: Senior Night will be held January 31 vs. King Drew at 7:00 p.m.
⚽ Boys Soccer
January served as a development-focused month for Boys Varsity Soccer as the Wolves faced competitive league opponents, including West and North. Each match provided opportunities to sharpen skills, strengthen team chemistry, and build confidence.
Highlight: Senior Night will take place January 30 vs. North at 6:00 p.m.
📣 Cheer
Wiseburn Da Vinci Cheer continued to support athletics and school events throughout January, bringing spirit and energy to basketball, volleyball, soccer, and community gatherings across campus.
🎮 ESports
The WDV ESports Spring Season is off to a strong start, with more than 47 students participating across the program. This year marks another historic milestone with the successful launch of three new teams: National Marvel Rivals, Mario Kart 8, and an All-Girls Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team competing in the CIF League.
Launching three new teams required significant dedication, and thanks to the leadership of team captains Julian Castro, Sharla Velasquez, and team manager Mario Restori, the program has already seen early success.

Additional recognition goes to our national teams for Chess, Valorant, and Rocket League, all of which advanced to the playoffs in their respective competitions.
CIF League Highlights

CIF Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Varsity)
Placed 24th overall out of 200+ teams; advanced to the second round of regional playoffs. -
CIF Rocket League (Varsity)
Placed 12th overall out of 90+ teams; advanced to the second round of regional playoffs. -
Special recognition to the Mario Kart 8 team for making program history and quickly establishing themselves as a competitive CIF program.
The WDV ESports program includes seven national teams and six CIF teams, led by Head Coach Jahmal Durham and Assistant Coaches Andy Galbraith and Eric Marintsch.
🌸 Spring Sports Preview
Spring sports are officially underway, with student-athletes preparing for an exciting season across all programs.
⚾ Baseball
WDV Baseball has stepped onto its new home field behind Da Vinci Connect TK–8. The field is nearly ready to host its first official home games, thanks to the collaboration between Wiseburn Unified School District and Da Vinci Schools.
🏊 Swim
The swim team has begun five-day-a-week practices, focusing on endurance, technique, and preparation for the upcoming season.
🥎 Softball
WDV Softball is preparing for a promising season and is excited for the opening of its home field at the Wiseburn Sports Complex.
🏹 Archery
The archery team continues intensive training and will host its first regional competition on campus on February 21, a major milestone for the program.
🏃 Track & Field
Track & Field athletes are training diligently as they prepare for their first meet of the season.
🏐 Boys Volleyball
Boys Volleyball has begun preseason training and is building team chemistry ahead of a competitive Pioneer League season, with their first home match scheduled for February.
