Stephan Shapiro

Mechanical Engineering Teacher & Pathway Coordinator, Da Vinci Science

Stephan Shapiro serves as the Mechanical Engineering Teacher and Pathway Coordinator at Da Vinci Science. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA in 2007 and spent nearly a decade as an aerospace design engineer before transitioning into education in 2017. Prior to joining DVS in 2024, he directed the robotics and engineering program at a private 6–12 school of roughly 800 students, where he taught all grade levels, coached the FRC team, and launched the school’s FTC program.

At DVS, Stephan teaches engineering classes and coaches FRC Team 4201: The Vitruvian Bots, as well as the school’s FTC teams. Having been an FRC student himself, he especially values the chance to guide students through the same program that shaped his own career path. His favorite part of teaching is building lasting relationships with students—often teaching them for multiple years both in the classroom and through robotics. Outside of school, Stephan enjoys snowboarding and playing video games.
